Copper and fiber certification testers are bought for one purpose: producing sign-off reports that a client will accept. That makes standards support and calibration currency the deciding factors.

Certification versus verification

A certifier measures against a cabling standard and produces a pass or fail with margin data. A verifier confirms wiremap and length. Only the former satisfies a warranty submission to a cabling manufacturer.

Match the certifier to what you install. Cat 6A sign-off needs a DSX-5000 class instrument; Cat 8 data centre work needs DSX-8000 with its 2000 MHz sweep.

Modules, adapters and calibration

Versiv platform instruments are modular. A mainframe without the right permanent link adapters and channel adapters cannot certify anything, and adapters wear out — their contact count is tracked by the instrument.

Annual calibration is generally required for warranty submissions. We state calibration status and can arrange it before despatch.

Common questions

Is a DTX-1800 still usable?

For Cat 6 and Class E certification, yes, and many contractors still submit DTX reports. For Cat 6A and Cat 8 you need a Versiv-platform instrument.

Are adapters included?

Always stated per listing, with adapter test counts where the instrument reports them.

Do I need both copper and fiber modules?

Only if you certify both. Versiv mainframes accept either, so you can add the second module later.
