Selling it yourself gets a higher headline price on the items that sell. The question is what your own time is worth, and what happens to the two thirds of a clear-out that nobody bids on. For a department clearing a room, one written offer that covers everything sellable is usually worth more than a retail price on a fraction of it.

Situations we handle every week

None of these need to be tidy before you contact us. A rough list and a few photographs are enough to start.

  • Service company closing or consolidating a branch
  • Calibration laboratory refreshing its fleet
  • Hospital biomedical department replacing test kit
  • Survey firm upgrading instruments or winding down
  • Plant shutdown, line decommissioning or relocation
  • Receivers and asset managers liquidating an estate
  • Engineer retiring, or an estate being wound up
  • Surplus left over after a completed project

How it works

  1. Send the list. Manufacturer, model, quantity and rough condition. Photographs of the front and rear panel help but are not required. If you do not know what something is, photograph it and we will identify it.
  2. We quote in writing, line by line. Usually within one business day. Each line states the condition we have assumed, so you can see exactly what drove the number and correct us if we are wrong.
  3. We arrange and pay for freight. Labels, packing guidance, and collection at our cost. For larger consignments we send packing materials and book a pallet carrier.
  4. You get paid. By wire or ACH on arrival and verification. For larger lots we can arrange payment on collection instead.

What raises and lowers the offer

Nothing here is a negotiating position. These are simply the things that determine what an instrument is worth to the next buyer, and therefore what we can pay.

Raises itCurrent calibration · complete accessories, probes and modules · original case · installed options and licences · matched sets kept together · volume in one collection
Lowers itMissing probes, leads or modules · expired calibration · undisclosed faults · batteries beyond life · model approaching end of manufacturer support
Costs you moneySplitting an instrument from its accessories to sell them separately · breaking up a modular system · storing it until support is withdrawn

What we buy

Every category we sell, we also buy — and we buy brands we do not currently list, because we buy against demand rather than against a fixed catalogue.

What we do not buy

So you do not waste time: consumer electronics, general IT hardware, office equipment, and instruments so old that no calibration or parts support remains. We will tell you within a day rather than leaving you waiting, and we are happy to point you at someone who does want it.

Common questions

How do you decide what to offer?

Model and configuration first, then calibration status, then completeness and condition. Two instruments with the same catalogue number can differ substantially in value depending on installed options, licences and what accessories are physically present. We quote line by line so you can see how each item was valued rather than receiving a single lump sum.

Do I have to sell everything together?

No. We quote on what we want and tell you plainly what we do not want, so you can dispose of the rest separately. Some dealers price a whole lot low to cover the items they cannot sell; we would rather be specific.

Who pays for shipping?

We do, on any reasonable consignment. We arrange collection, supply labels and packing guidance, and for larger lots we can send pallets and shrink wrap. For a single low-value item we may ask you to cover postage, and we will say so up front.

How and when do I get paid?

By wire or ACH once the equipment arrives and matches the description. For established sellers and larger consignments we can arrange payment on collection instead.

Will you buy faulty or incomplete equipment?

Yes. Faulty, incomplete, out-of-calibration and cosmetically damaged units all have value. State the fault and it reduces the quote by a known amount. Hide it and it reduces the quote by an unknown amount plus a dispute, which is worse for both of us.

What if I do not know what I have?

Send photographs of the front and rear panels and we will identify it. This is normal when a department clears a store cupboard or an estate is being wound up, and it is not a problem.

Do you buy outside the United States?

Yes, subject to the item. Most test and measurement equipment ships internationally without difficulty. Radiation measurement instruments and anything containing a check source have additional requirements that we confirm before agreeing anything.

Is my equipment list confidential?

Yes. We do not share lists, and we will sign an NDA before you send anything if your situation requires it. Plant closures and insolvency processes are often commercially sensitive and we treat them that way.

Can I trade in against something I need?

Yes, and it is often the best value option. Trade-in credit against stock we hold is usually worth more to you than a cash offer on the same equipment.

What happens to data on the equipment?

Anything with storage is wiped before resale. If your policy requires documented destruction, tell us and we will provide a certificate.
