Power System & Substation Testing

Transformer, circuit breaker, relay, battery and cable test equipment for utilities and electrical contractors.

Brands in this category: Megger

Substation and utility test equipment is heavy, expensive and slow to depreciate. Used purchasing is normal practice in this sector, and the deciding factors are output capability, software and accessory completeness.

Match output to the plant you test

Micro-ohmmeters are specified by test current: 10 A units suit joints and bonds, 200 A and 600 A units are needed for HV breaker contact resistance where the standard requires it.

Relay test sets are specified by current per phase and channel convertibility. End-to-end and transmission protection testing needs substantially more output than distribution work.

Software, leads and accessories

PowerDB, CABA Win and AVTS are the reporting layers for much of this equipment, and a test set without its software is significantly less useful. We state what is included and whether licences transfer.

Heavy current leads, timing cables and travel transducers are expensive and frequently separated during a depot clear-out. Every accessory is itemised in our listings.

Common questions

Is used substation test equipment accepted by utilities?

Yes, provided it is calibrated. Age is not a concern in this sector; calibration currency is.

Do software licences transfer?

It varies by product. We confirm in writing before sale rather than assuming.

Can you supply leads and transducers separately?

Yes. We hold accessories and can complete an incomplete set you already own.
